Like most of the site, this page is a work in progress. Once I see that the Melungeon Roots project is sustainable, I’ll be adding all historical events and milestones that were relevant to the Melungeons to this interactive timeline.

First documented use of the term "melungeon"

The earliest documented use of the term "Melungeon" (or "Melungin" as it's spelled in the document) is in the September 26, 1813 minutes of the Stony Creek Baptist Church (Scott County, VA).
