It’s really hard to say this, but I have to be transparent about the at-risk status of this project. Back in 2022, I started the work of figuring out how I could bring my vision for Melungeon Roots to life, but I significantly underestimated the amount of time and money it would take to actually make it happen. Now we find ourselves in a position where all of the plugins (software) used to make the site functional are either renewing (costs we continue to cover) or are about to expire (those we can’t cover, like the membership plugin which will need to be renewed in March to avoid the loss of all community features.)

If you’re enjoying the site, please consider helping us secure the future of Melungeon Roots before it dies. I’m currently putting 35-50 hours a week in on it and am prepared to continue doing that and more – This is my special interest and lifelong passion, after all! – but we need to see (and fast) that it will be sustainable, or I’ll have to find other work. Once we feel comfortable about the amounts coming in, I plan to reach out to the Scholars’ Lab to get some guidance on a few things still a bit over my head. I feel confident that between your financial support and a little advice from those more knowledgeable than myself, we can carve out this new space dedicated specifically to the Melungeon and mixed race studies community.

I have 3.3.25 in mind as a potential launch date, if all goes well (stay tuned). Any amount you can afford to give will help.
